Ticketshop - Zirkusquartier Zürich

The Zirkusquartier is Zurich’s production, performance, training and learning venue for contemporary circus and the home of Zirkus Chnopf.

The diverse program of shows, workshops and courses invites you to experience and learn about circus in all its facets and also offers numerous opportunities for professional circus artists. The Zirkusquartier is a meeting place for children, young people and adults, for professionals and amateurs, for visitors and artists - and not least for the local population and offers space for learning, training, watching and meeting.

The Zirkusquartier was founded in 2016 by Zirkus Chnopf, which uses it to rehearse its new creations.

Zur Rettung der Blasmusik

Threatened, slandered, denigrated and forgotten from all sides: Good old brass band music. Where does the playful horn still blare, where can you still hear the lovely tuba? Where do the good trombones still blare?

Three performers with brass band experience set out to save the music.

They haven’t thought about exactly how beforehand, but while they’re here, they want to save something, whether near or far.

The rescue of brass music is a scanning of traditional brass music, the urban/rural divide and club life through the ages. The poetry of the protocol is honored, the marching formation, the report of the club outing, as well as the most beautiful waltz from the spring concert.

A play for all those who have escaped the confines of country life and are freeing themselves from the staid traditions of the city, and at the same time for those for whom this part of the community is important. A humorous treatment of an alpine passion: club life.

Zur Rettung der Blasmusik is a co-production of Zirkusquartier Zürich and will celebrate its premiere on November 15.

This event takes place as part of the Nuit du Cirque .

Wagenvarieté

At the Wagenvarieté, the circus wagons become stages: four artists from different disciplines will transport the audience to different worlds with juggling, partner acrobatics, physical theater and magic. The evening will be hosted by the magician Jamil Tafazzolian, who will perform small tricks and be accompanied by Sibill Urweider on the piano. The audience will move from show to show - from circus wagon to circus wagon, and there will also be delicious crêpes and hot drinks from the bar in between. The four short pieces on a very small stage offer entertainment for all ages. Let yourself be taken on a magical journey in the Güeterbahnhof, surrounded by the magic of lights and the winter romance!

Shorzzz

The "Shorzz" program put together by SPOT Sion, Zirkusquartier Zurich and BühneAarau features three Swiss circus newcomers. "Nexus" by IsalineHugonnet and Yu-Yin Lin's Compagnie 24 combines diabolo with ball juggling. It plays with the metaphor of a juggling duo as a representation of human interaction. Every relationship is based on a fragile balance in which the smallest event can have unexpected consequences. In "RU", Bastien Alvarez (Compagnie CABAC) explores the experience of displacement at the intersection of circus, song and text: a character goes about his daily life until an external force turns everything upside down. In an acrobatic duet, the duo GingerMoustache humorously explore the playground of human movement in "Ossol" with high risk and lots of balancing acts.

Glorious Bodies

Circumstances (BE)

Glorious Bodies is a physical, moving and hopeful circus and dance performance about the ability of our bodies, about seeing and being seen, about the border between classical and contemporary circus with six acrobats aged between 55 and 67, each with a past in (more) classical circus. Circus history archived in the body.

Ageing is still a taboo in our society and even more so in the circus world. Similar to top athletes, most acrobats stop their intensive training at a certain age. How do “perfect bodies change?” Can a person ever make peace with their own body? Can you be completely in harmony? Glorious Bodies sheds light on the process of ageing in a unique way. A process that happens to all of us. Something that is indeed happening right now, in this moment.

The roots of the performance lie in partner acrobatics and movement. Glorious Bodies dismantles the clichés about the older generation. An impressive, charming and humorous performance that shows us what the human body is actually capable of. An ability that is obviously timeless and ageless.
